The career of Aziz CHAMKH began in 1960 with the group TABRAYNOUSSTE, very well known at that time, they were the pioneers of the Berber music revival. In 1962, they founded the group LAKDAM (ancestor of IZENZAREN) with RABA Mohamed, HANAFI Mohamed, BALLED Mohamed, BOUYI Mohamed, CHARYI and some others.
It was the first Chleuh group to modernize the Berber music with unknown instruments such as the banjo or the violin. LAKDAM is known for the titles " Dounit Tzri ", " Waditmoudoune ", a great number of their titles were taken again later by IZENZAREN. The group breaks up and Aziz CHAMKH founded IZENZAREN in company of Lahcen FARTAL, MOULAY Brahim, IGOUT Abdelhadi, DA ALI without HANAFI Mohamed and the other members who remained within group LAKDAM. At the end of 1974, group IZENZAREN separates. IGOUT Abdelhadi joins again with the members of LAKDAM (separated at the same time) with this time the poet HANAFI Mohamed, author of all the songs of IZENZAREN.
Aziz CHAMKH, founded the band IZENZAREN CHAMKH, they were the first to play the titles of HADJ BELAID and to make discover this large poet and illustrates singer of the Berber music.
The repertory of Aziz CHAMKH is impressive, he played with the greatest names of the Berber music and in particular played with ACHTOUK, Mohamed DEMCIRI, Omar WAHROUCH, it is also the first artist to be written in Tifinagh on the small pockets of its albums.
In 1983/84, he started what will become a name impossible to circumvent on the Berber musical scene, the young person Hassan IDBASSAID, with whom he played in duet many concerts and evenings always accompanied by his banjo and his violin. They recorded together the title " WAROUYYD ISROUTINN ".
Aziz CHAMKH is a great name of the Berber music, he is part of those which made apreciate and discover the Berber music with several generations of young and older people in love with their culture.
